Fultondale council approves second severe-weather safe room

The Fultondale Council met briefly Monday night to approve the construction bid for the city’s second community safe room, to be built near the Fultondale youth football field.

The approval comes on the heels of the grand opening of the city’s first safe room, located near Fultondale Fire Station No. 2.

In other business, the council:

• declared a 1999 GMC 3500 truck as surplus and agreed to place it on a public auction site for bid.

• agreed to purchase a 1999 Jayco fire truck from Glenwood Fire Department for $1. The truck was one of Fultondale’s original trucks that was sold and will now be restored.

• approved a resolution to accept the dedication of streets in the Dogwood Acres subdivision.

• authorized the mayor to take and award bids on resurfacing the streets in the Dogwood Acres subdivision.

• approved a resolution to appoint Jimmy Lay to the Planning Commission to fill the remainder of the term left by Brenda Hawkins. The term expires on Nov. 1, 2018.
