Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for two men who led them on a chase from the Corner School area to a location near Sayre.
A Sheriff’s Office spokesman said that two burglary suspects were spotted in a black Honda Civic at about 12:40 p.m., near the intersection of Corner School Road and Sleigh Road. Deputies tried to stop the suspects, but the car sped away.
The suspects took lawmen on a chase down westbound Warrior-Jasper Road. Deputies put out a spike strip ahead of the car’s path to try to stop the suspects; the strip caused one tire to go flat. The suspects then stopped the car in the 5800 block of Old Jasper Highway, just east of Alabama 5 (old U.S. 78).
The driver fled on foot, while a passenger was taken into custody. Deputies are employing tracking dogs in their search through the wooded area.
