The Rockets jumped out to an early lead when Brittany Adair scored in the second minute. The Panthers answered with a goal off a corner kick in the 14th.

The Rockets missed a chance to take the lead late in the first half, as the Panthers goalkeeper took down Gardendale forward Alexa Kauffman inside the penalty area. The keeper got a yellow card, but Sabrina Knight’spenalty kick went off the left post.

Southside took the lead in the 63rd minute off a free kick after a foul by Mikaylah Corbin, then added another goal to go up 3-1. But the Rockets closed the gap to one with a Knight goal in the 70th minute, followed shortly thereafter with a goal by Kauffman to level the scores just before full time.

The match looked to be headed for a shootout, but Goolsby’s goal in the waning seconds clinched the extra-time victory.

It’s the first-ever appearance in the Class 6A Elite Eight. They’ll host the winner of the match between Briarwood Christian and John Carroll Cathloic later this week. The date and time are to be announced.
