COLD SPRINGS — West Point’s varsity softball team doesn’t have to look far for advice on how to handle this whole back-to-back county championship business.
The school’s junior varsity squad has plenty of experience.

Makayla Brown blasted a two-run homer, shortstop Olivia Ball and third baseman Molly Pendley recorded 17 of the team’s 21 outs in the title tilt, and the Lady Warriors topped Good Hope and Holly Pond to clinch their fourth consecutive JV county crown on Wednesday.
Brown punctuated West Point’s 6-0 semifinal win against the Raiders with a 2-for-2 performance that included the home run, a double and three RBIs. Ball and Hope Shedd added two-base knocks of their own and also drove in a run apiece. Ally Sapp and Gracie Thompson provided singles.
Josey Gammon struck out five, issued two walks and gave up just two hits in five innings.
Brown and Shedd again came to play in the championship clash, combining for four hits in six at-bats of a 2-1 triumph over the Broncos. Brown’s bounty included a double and RBI, while Shedd’s was bolstered by a triple. Gracie Abbott posted a pair of singles, and Taylor Willingham tacked on a double and RBI. Sapp had another single.
Gammon capped off a dominant day in the circle, scattering two strikeouts, no walks and two hits over a complete game effort.
“Holly Pond was a solid team and hit the ball well, but our defense played solid, too,” West Point coach Mike Brown said. “I am proud of how all these girls played and came away with another championship.”
