On his first day in office, President Obama called for openness in government. Now he’s calling for openness in restrooms, at least those at the White House. 

In its latest effort to promote LGBT inclusiveness in the workplace, the Obama administration announced Wednesday that the signs designating male and female restrooms will no longer apply to the biology, but the gender identity of White House staff and guests.

“The White House allows staff and guests to use restrooms consistent with their gender identity, which is in keeping with the Administration’s existing legal guidance on this issue and consistent with what is required by the Executive Order that took effect today for federal contractors,” White House spokesman Jeff Tiller told CNN.

Tiller also said that a new “all-gender restroom” has been added in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is located next door to the West Wing.
