LOCAL ROUNDUP: Aggies, Warriors trade extra-inning wins; St. Bernard boys win 1st tennis match

FAIRVIEW — Fairview and West Point waited as long as possible to exchange blows in Thursday’s area series.
The Aggies scored five two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth before the Warriors responded with five of their own in the seventh to claw back into the contest.
In the end, however, it was Lane Schnittker’s seeing-eye single that scored Preston Moore in the eighth inning to hand Fairview a 6-5 win against its county rival.
No other stats were available by deadline. West Point won the nightcap 8-5 in yet another eight-inning affair.
% Hanceville 10, Susan Moore 2: The Bulldogs continued their awe-inspiring area play with another easy win on Thursday.
Isaac Weissend (three hits), Austin Coker (two hits, three RBIs) and Hayden Loggins (two hits) were the big-time contributors for the 16-8 Bulldogs, who stayed at No. 6 in the latest Class 3A poll.
Noah Davis and Dant’e Reese each had run-scoring base hits, while Branen Hurst rounded out the base knocks with a single.
Hurst also picked up the win on the mound, tossing four innings of three-hit ball and striking out one.
Prep Softball
% West Point 15, Vinemont 0: The Warriors sent their seniors out in grand fashion on Thursday, downing the Lady Eagles in a three-inning affair to improve to 9-6 on the season.
Mallory Walker (two hits) and Karli Beck (hit) had three RBIs apiece, while other seniors Karra Elam (hit, two RBIs), Daranna Campbell (hit) and Kayla Sullins (hit) also showed out in the win.
Beck allowed three hits and struck out five batters in three frames to secure the win.
Other contributors were Tess Hembree (two hits, three RBIs), Jordan Kimbrell (two hits, RBI) and Lillie Burdette (hit, two RBIs).
% Sumiton Christian 11, Cullman 10 (10 innings): The No. 8 Bearcats fell a little short to the top-ranked team in Class 2A, dropping a big offensive slugfest at home.
Sierra Easterwood and Tiffani Schwaiger each had three base hits for Cullman, while Claire Jenkins launched a grand slam as one of her two knocks. McKensi Burks also tallied a pair of hits for the 15-9 Bearcats.
Olivia Schwaiger went the distance in the loss, and center fielder Taiya Ponder had two assists to catcher Elli Dixon for outs at the plate.
% Oneonta 8, Good Hope 6: Despite three first-inning runs, the Raiders weren’t able to come away with a win over the Redskins.
Josie McDonald and Bailey Starnes each had two-run homers for Good Hope, which fell to 9-9 with the loss.
Jami Stinson contributed an RBI double in the fourth frame, plating teammate Erika Woodall. MaKailey Speegle scored the other Red and White run on a wild pitch.
Prep Golf
Fairview’s girls finished third overall during Thursday’s Chesley Oaks Spring Classic behind White Plains and Alexandria.
Maci Yeager (92), Dalys Mullican (94) and Aladie Howse (105) each contributed to the nice showing, while Anna Dahlke (106) and Valerie Yarbrough (114) carded rounds for the Aggies.
West Point’s Lindsey Rodgers (83) and Hanceville’s Briana Morgan (110) were the other local individual golfers in the 60-person field.
Prep Track and Field
Cullman sophomore Garrison Hill launched himself into the Bearcat record books with a sensational pole vault jump of 14’6” during Thursday’s Fort Payne Invitational.

Prep Soccer
Ben Walker tallied four goals, Miguel Tizapa contributed a hat trick and the Cullman soccer squad rolled to a 10-0 win over Hazel Green Thursday.
Seth Andrews (two) and Issac Rodriquez rounded out the scorers.
Walker, Rodriquez, Cole Gerding, K.J. Potter, Kevin Phillips and Henrik Saether each had assists in the shutout.
The girls improved to 15-2 with 3-1 victory over Hazel Green. Goal scorers were not known at deadline.
Prep Tennis
St. Bernard’s boys picked up their first win of the season with a 6-3 decision over Victory Christian on Thursday.
Dai Qi Liu (No. 3, 8-6), Chuhui Qiu (No. 4, 8-1), Duy Nguyen (No. 5, 8-1) and Chanh Pham (No. 6, 8-0) tallied victories in singles competition to help the Saints tab some huge points, while Jalen Lee/Kham Nguyen (No. 1, 8-6) and Duy Nguyen/Pham (No. 3) grabbed two triumphs in doubles.
Over in 6A, Cullman’s teams earned decisive wins over area-foe Austin with the boys (8-1) and girls (9-0) both rolling.
Matt Davis (No. 1, 10-6), Donny Camp (No. 2), Parker Adams (No. 4, 10-6), Hunter Manley (10-3) and Drew Fillinger (No. 6, 10-7) secured a bevy of singles wins, while Davis/Camp (11-10), Manley/Adams (10-7) and Lambert/Fillinger (10-1) shined in doubles.
On the flip side, Olivia Sharpton (No. 1, 10-2), Lilli Watson (No. 2, 11-10), Kacie Donaldson (No. 3, 10-2), Kate Hood (No. 4), Gentry Bussman (No. 5, 10-4) and Emily Graves (No. 6, 10-6) had ho-hum victories, too.
Fishing
Cullman native Matt Lee reeled in five fish (23 pounds, 15 ounces) to take seventh after Day 1 action in a Bassmaster Elite event at Lake Guntersville on Thursday.
Michael Iaconelli is the leader at 28-2.
Matt’s brother, Jordan, resides in 43rd after a five-fish haul of 18-8.
The 113-angler field will be trimmed to 53 following Friday’s fishing.
