Pinson Valley student charged with blindfolding, beating up another in apparent gang initiation

- Sylvester Hundley, 19 and a student at Pinson Valley High School, is charged with third-degree assault and compelling street gang membership. A 17-year-old victim was blindfolded and assaulted in a PVHS restroom on Thursday.
A student at Pinson Valley High School has been arrested on charges that he assaulted another student, in what investigators think may have been an initiation into a gang.
Sylvester Hundley, 19, was arrested Friday on charges of third-degree assault and compelling street gang membership, after a Jefferson County Sheriff’s school resource officer learned that a 17-year-old student had been beaten up in a school restroom.

The incident took place on Thursday morning at about 8:45. The sheriff’s office was notified by school administrators that the victim had been taken into the restroom, blindfolded, and was punched in the face and head several times. The incident was recorded on video by another student, using a smart phone.
The victim sustained cuts to the mouth and head, and was transported to Children’s of Alabama by ambulance.
Hundley is held in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $66,000 bond.
