PREP ROUNDUP: Fairview’s Turnage, Holmes no-hit Holly Pond; Walker’s 3 assists not enough for Cullman soccer

FAIRVIEW — Joey Turnage and Matthew Holmes combined for a five-inning no-hitter, and Preston Moore went 3 for 4 with three RBIs in Fairview’s 12-0 shutout of Holly Pond on Monday.
Turnage was untouchable with seven strikeouts and a walk in a four-inning start for the Aggies (4-2). Holmes shut the door with two K’s and a walk in the fifth.
Logan Guffey kept up a furious start to the season with a single, double and triple in three at-bats. Ragan Ashley (two RBIs) hit a three-base knock of his own, while Moore, Isom Carden (RBI) and Clay Lanier all went for two bags as well.
Juan Gomez had an RBI and three runs. Garrett Dunn (RBI) and Tyler Ball had a hit apiece.
% Hanceville 3, Winston County 0: Isaac Hardin drove in two runs with a pair of doubles, and Christian James tossed five innings of two-hit ball to pick up a win for Class 3A’s top-ranked Bulldogs on Monday.
Hayden Loggins was good for a double and an RBI, while Isaac Weissend added two singles. Branen Hurst (stolen base), Austin Coker and Griffin Brown each had a hit.
Mark Kubia gave up two hits in two innings to tally the save for Hanceville (8-2), which snapped a two-game skid.

% James Clemens 4, Cullman 3: Ben Walker had all three assists, but the Bearcat boys came up just short in a close game Monday against the Class 7A Jets.
Peyton Brown, Isaac Rodriguez and Miguel Tizapa found the net for 6A No. 5 Cullman, which fell to 6-3.
The Black and Gold’s junior varsity boys were shut out 5-0 by Vestavia Hills.
