The Gardendale Board of Education has announced a special called meeting for Monday night.
According to an agenda posted on the Gardendale City Schools Facebook page, the board will consider a resolution, the subject of which is not given, and will then go into executive session.
The meeting comes in the wake of a report filed by the Jefferson County Board of Education with the U.S. District Court in Birmingham, which tells the court that the county systems ability to abide by the court’s order in the Stout and U.S. v. Jefferson County Board of Education racial desegregation case could be compromised by Gardendale schools breaking away from JefCoEd.
The Gardendale meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center. It is scheduled at the same time as a meeting held by JefCoEd Supt. Dr. Craig Pouncey at Mt. Olive Elementary School, in which Pouncey plans to address parents of students who currently attend Gardendale schools, but live outside the city limits.
