- Tommy Leon Stewart, 28 of Birmingham was arrested on Nov. 12 on charges of robbing CVS pharmacies in Pinson and Center Point.
A robbery at a Pinson drugstore last October has resulted in a federal indictment against a Birmingham man.
Tommy Leon Stewart, 28, was indicted on three charges by a federal grand jury last week. The charges are related to an armed robbery at a CVS Pharmacy on Alabama 75, which occurred on Oct. 29. One of the charges accuses Stewart of brandishing a firearm during the robbery; if convicted, that charge would tack on a minimum of seven additional years in prison, to be served at the end of whatever other sentences he may incur.
Stewart was also charged in the robbery of another CVS store a week beforehand, this one in Center Point. In both robberies, investigators say he held up the pharmacy staff at gunpoint, took money and drugs, then fled by jumping out the window of the drive-thru lane.
Investigators caught a break in the case when Stewart’s wallet was found at the crime scene in Pinson, and fingerprints from the wallet were used to match those at the store.
Stewart was already facing state charges on nine counts for the same robberies.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said in November that Stewart was being investigated for involvement in other robberies in the Birmingham area.
Stewart has been held without bond since his arrest.
