PREP SOFTBALL: Aggies improve to 4-0, off to insane offensive start

FAIRVIEW — A little leftover snow and soggy conditions did little to cool down Fairview softball’s red-hot start on Saturday.
After a team effort to even make the field playable, the Lady Aggies bounced Holly Pond twice (13-6 and 17-0) and Hanceville once (15-0) to complete an impressive showing at their own round-robin event.
“Oh my goodness, we were out there about five hours Friday and another five on Saturday,” Fairview coach Brian Simmons said of fixing up the diamond for competition. “The baseball team came over and helped us out, so that was good. If they wouldn’t have done that, we probably wouldn’t have played.”
Including a season-opening 20-0 shutout of Meek, the Aggies are 4-0 and averaging a shade more than 16 runs a game.
As for the other side of the ball, Carli Jo Ashley and Ally Hogeland have combined to throw a no-hitter (Hogeland) and a pair of one-hitters (both Ashley) while yielding just the six runs to the Broncos.
“They’ve pitched well,” Simmons said. “We’ve been crushing the ball these first four games.”
Though her name will rarely appear on a stat sheet, Abbie Cook’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Simmons was extremely high on his lone senior’s fielding and selfless disposition.
“For a senior to come in and play a flex, it shows a lot of leadership,” he said. “She’s doing a great job and leading the team.”
