Joan Grimes

A lifetime resident of northern Jefferson County, Joan Grimes was a member of Phillips High School class of 1949. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. After receiving her Master’s degree from UAB, she began her teaching career at Springdale High School before transferring to Gardendale High School, where she taught English and French. She enjoyed travel, and made many friends all over the world.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry Moreland and Thelma Garrett Mobley; spouse, Robert Franklin Grimes (1/1/1998); spouse, Theron Boyd (12/2004).
She is survived by sons Mark F. Grimes (Ann) and Jeffery R. Grimes (Penny); daughters, Emily Henderson (John) and Melanie Waldrop; brother, Frederick Mobley; grandchildren, Rachel Powell (Jeff), Robert Thomas (Ashley), Sophia Henderson, Patrick Grimes, Daniel Grimes, Riley Grimes, Jessica Grimes, Jeremiah Grimes, Joshua Grimes, Jason Grimes, Jonathan Grimes, Jillian Grimes, Michael Waldrop and Caitlin Waldrop; great grandchildren, Gavin Powell, Chloe Powell, Isaac Powell, Genevieve Thomas, Annabelle Thomas and Adam Grimes; and a host of family and friends.
Services were held at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel.
