Blount County Schools closed, Jefferson County open on regular schedule Friday

Jefferson County Schools will be open for business on Friday, but Blount County Schools will not.

JefCoEd announced at 5:30 p.m. that the system would hold classes on normal schedules, with full bus and breakfast service. Nearly all roads in the district’s boundaries are cleared from Wednesday’s snow. Only the extreme northern portions around Corner and Bagley may see some ice on Friday morning, caused by moisture re-freezing on roads as temperatures drop below 32 degrees overnight.

Blount County, though, received much more snow and ice in the storm, and much of it did not melt away on Thursday. Some roads are still listed as slick and hazardous, and more are likely after overnight re-freezing. Therefore, the school system decided to cancel classes for a third straight day.

Among other nearby systems and private schools, only Walker County and Sumiton Christian have called off classes on Friday.

Hopewell Daycare in Pinson will delay its opening until 8 a.m.
