It’s finally Friday…
Weather: Winter weather advisory in effect. The National Weather Service just issued the advisory for central Alabama, as wintry precipitation has developed to our west. We could see snow, sleet and/or freezing rain this morning, changing over to rain and sleet after noon. Highs today in the upper 30s. Rain continues tonight with lows staying above freeing at around 35. More rain on Saturday but much warmer, with highs near 60. Th rain continues through Sunday but temperatures fall, with highs in the upper 40s; the rain may change over to snow on Sunday night and Monday before ending.
“I’m devastated.” That was the reaction of Blount County Schools Superintendent Jim Car, when he found out about a video on a school-issued laptop computer that resulted in the arrest of Locust Fork High School assistant principal Tim Clevenger early Thursday morning. Technicians discovered a video that showed a nude teenage girl getting ready to enter a shower at Clevenger’s house; Clevenger is alleged to have shot the video from outside through a window without her knowledge. The video was discovered when Clevenger sent the laptop to the system’s central office for maintenance. Clevenger is jailed without bond on three sex-related charges.
Homicide in Morris. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has been called in to assist Morris police, who responded to a robbery at a house just steps from their station. When police arrived at the house on Banks Street they found the body of Michael Earl Reese, 40, in the rear of the kitchen. Reese had died after a gunshot wound. No forced entry to the house was evident, and no weapons were missing. The investigation continues.
Sports: Almost got away. Gardendale was ahead 5-1 with two outs in the seventh inning, with Pleasant Grove having scored earlier on an error and a passed ball, when things got a little scary for the Rockets. The Spartans scored on a two-run Jacob Biasharat double, then Bisharat himself scored on the same play thanks to two throwing errors. But Brady Sellers was able to strike out the last batter to hold on to the 5-4 win for Gardendale on Thursday, in what was reduced from a scheduled doubleheader to a single, very cold game. Elsewhere, Gardendale’s scheduled softball game was cancelled due to the cold weather.
