He is survived by his only sister, Bonnie Mitchell (David) of Gardendale,  Jimmy M. Long, Reverend Jerry C. Long (Amelia) of Kinder, La.  He had two daughters, three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald was affectionately known as Uncle Duck by family and friends. He traveled the nation working in the construction business and was quick with a joke followed by a hearty laugh. In his spare time he enjoyed saltwater fishing, listening to old time country music and spending time with his family but was never without his beloved chahuahua,  “Miss Piggie”. He had a special place in his heart for his church family at Faith Baptist Church, Bellview, Fla.

Special thanks to his niece Martha (Marty) Bendley and best friend, Charles (Cash) McClain for their constant care and support through the years.

Services were held at Messmer-Goodwin Funeral Home with burial at Friendship Church Gardendale. Memorial donations can be made to: UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center (Mesothelioma study) Birmingham, Ala.
