HANCEVILLE — Joshua Langford showed out in front of Anthony Grant, Bruce Pearl and several other coaches from around the state and country Wednesday at Wallace State, opening the Northwest Regional Tournament Class 3A championship with a filthy dunk and closing it with the MVP prize.

The five-star Madison Academy recruit had 15 points and seven rebounds in a 60-42 win over Winfield, but the true buzz around Tom Drake Coliseum centered around who was there to see him. Michigan coach John Beilein and Auburn’s Pearl were in the house by tipoff, while Alabama’s Grant joined the party at halftime.

Grant and Pearl spent much of intermission chatting near media row, not even 24 hours after the Tide came out on top in basketball’s Iron Bowl.

Members of Michigan State’s coaching staff, among others, were also on hand to take in Langford’s talents. The junior definitely didn’t disappoint, piling on his production before hitting the bench early in both halves with the outcome all but decided.

Langford was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Myles Parker (16 points, nine rebounds and three steals) and Austin Troxell (eight points), as well as Winfield’s Kent Jenkins (21 points) and Payton Stovall (seven points).

The second-ranked Mustangs, just a season removed from a state title, improved to 17-12 with their fourth straight regional crown.

The No. 7 Pirates finished 24-8.

% West Limestone 47, East Lawrence 35: The Eagles dug out of an early hole, but Matt Bozeman and Grant Baugher put them right back in it, sinking four straight 3’s during a stretch in the third quarter en route to the 4A boys championship.

Bozeman finished 5 of 8 from behind the arc, Baugher was 2 of 3 and fourth-ranked West Limestone went 9 of 17 as a team. East Lawrence, which needed more than five minutes to snap the Wildcats’ 11-0 start, only attempted three long-range baskets. It made one.

Hunter Morgan earned MVP honors after piling on 12 points, 15 rebounds (nine were offensive) and four blocks. Bozeman (15 points) and Zane Griffin (eight points and three blocks) were West Limestone’s other All-Tourney Team choices. Baugher added 12 points.

The Wildcats (30-3) are Birmingham bound following their first regional title in three tries.

Johnathon Hill (eight points and 11 rebounds) and Terique Evans (six points) landed on the All-Tourney Team for East Lawrence, which finished 18-11. Five of those losses were dished out by West Limestone.

% Ramsay 39, Parker 29: And that’s a wrap — on the tournament and the Thundering Herd’s shot at repeating.

The fifth-ranked Rams ensured there will be a new 5A champion this season, avenging a 10-point loss to Parker in last year’s state final with a 10-point win in the week’s final regional championship.

A.J. Luke grabbed 10 points, 10 rebounds and MVP accolades for Ramsay, which advances to the Final Four with a 29-5 record. Baniko Harley (eight points) gave the winners two guys on the All-Tourney Team.

Eugene Minter (seven points and nine rebounds) and JaMichael King (four points and six boards) cracked the squad for the Herd, who finished 22-8.
