A Gardendale man died shortly after his pickup truck crashed into a bridge abutment in north Jefferson County on Monday.

Chandler Keith “Chad” Oglesby was driving his Chevy Silverado pickup truck just before noon, going east on Sardis Road between Sharit Drive and Sharit Dairy Road. He lost control and veered into the opposing lane of traffic, off the road, and then struck the abutment.

Oglesby was still alive at the crash scene and was transported to UAB Hospital. His condition went downhill upon arrival, though, and Oglesby died in the emergency room just after 2 p.m.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s investigators still aren’t sure what caused the wreck.
