Boys basketball regionals: Tanner 92, Tarrant 80

HANCEVILLE — The end of the season has come for Tarrant’s boys basketball team.
Tanner beat the Wildcats 92-80 in wgat was by far the highest-scoring game of the day at the Class 2A Northwest Regional Tournament, held at Wallace State-Hanceville’s Tom Drake Coliseum.
The Rattlers led 21-13 after the first quarter, 45-35 at the half and 69-62 after the third period. Tarrant’s seven-point deficit to begin the fourth quarter was as close as the Wildcats got in the second half.
Tanner’s biggest lead was a 63-45 advantage early in the third quarter.
The Wildcats had four players finish with double figures. Santez Blevins recorded a double-double, scoring 22 points and collecting 19 rebounds. Cameron McFarland and Michael Sadler each scored 16 points and Deuntra Head added 12.
Markel Mull led the Rattlers with a game-high 31 points. Johnathan Fletcher scored 19 points and had 11 rebounds, Ibrahim White finished with 16 points and Jarmal Townsend added 11.
Tanner outrebounded Tarrant 57-53. Both teams attempted a combined 168 shots.
The Wildcats finish with a 13-15 record in their first trip to the regional playoffs since 2008, when they competed in Class 4A.
