PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Warriors, Saints defend home courts in semis; Aggies, Raiders eliminated after tough losses

WEST POINT — The Warriors jumped out to a 15-point advantage at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, defending its home floor with an 81-68 win over Russellville Thursday to advance to the Class 5A, Area 14 Tournament final.
Will Wrenn was red hot from 3-point range — where he went 4 of 6 — to lead top-seeded West Point with 23 points. Tanner Rusk was hot on the senior’s heel with 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Levi Laney and Bryant Farley were the last Warriors to manage double figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Other contributors for West Point, which led 26-11 after the first eight minutes, were Ryder Jones, six points; Riley Voce, four; and Seth Parker, two. was the last Warrior to manage double figures with 10 points. Rusk pulled down nine boards, and Laney added eight.
The Maroon and White will host Lawrence County for the area tourney title Saturday at 7 p.m. The teams split their regular season meetings, though West Point won the most recent matchup.
% St. Bernard 58, Brilliant 34: Coach Greg Boatright’s squad put together a brilliant performance during a 1A, Area 11 Tournament win on Thursday.
Dean Smith (16 points), Gavin Harris (15) and Evan Aldredge (11) came away with double-digit efforts in the victory, which clinched St. Bernard a spot in the championship game against Lynn Saturday at 6 p.m.
Other contributors were Christian Peterson, six points; Jacob Grey and Luis Zantarian, four each; and Caleb Guthery, two.
“Reaching the finals is what you’re after — and we’re there,” Boatright said. “Lynn’s well-coached and a solid team, so we better be ready.”
% Locust Fork 63, Good Hope 37: The Raiders’ tough season came to an end on Thursday with a defeat at the hands of the host Hornets during the 4A, Area 10 Tournament.
Jared McClure led Good Hope with eight points, while Isaih Lemus and Reese Harbison each secured six. Other Red and White contributors were Tyler Vanderburg, four points; Tyler Elrod and Isacc McDonald, three each; Eric Murphree, Blake Lyle and Kyle Calvert, two apiece; and Mason Johnson, one.
% Lawrence County 91, Fairview 46: Despite respective 16- and 11-point showings from seniors Tyler Yearwood and Jackson Smith, the offensive-minded Red Devils proved to be too much for the Aggies to handle in the first round of the 5A, Area 14 Tournament.
Lawrence County doubled up Fairview 52-26 in the first half and outscored the Aggies 23-2 in the third quarter to seal the victory.
Other contributors for the Aggies were Austin Fletcher, eight points; Kyle Knop, four; Dylan Smith, three; and Seth Lancaster and Austin Harris, both two.
Jesse Childress topped the Red Devils with 27 points. Jesse Moreno had 23.
