Good Tuesday morning to you…
Weather: Snowflakes ahead? Today will bring sunny skies with warmer temperatures, as highs rise to around 50 degrees. Lows tonight will be near freezing. Wednesday will turn cloudy with a slight chance of rain after noon and highs in the middle 50s. Those rain showers may turn to snow overnight, but little or no accumulation is expected.

Here’s the deal. The Gardendale City Council has approved a franchise agreement that is substantially like the one the Fultondale Gas Board has used to serve the city for more than two decades. The only substantial change is a requirement that two residents of Gardendale – one of whom would be the sitting mayor – would sit on the board. Now it’s up to the board to accept the new agreement, which isn’t a given – a report from a consultant to the board specifically recommended against doing business under franchise agreements. Stay tuned.
Sports: Hale, yes! Cornell Hale’s 3-point basket as the final buzzer sounded gave Pinson Valley a 62-60 win over visiting Gardendale in the boys basketball regular-season finale. Hale led all scorers with 21 points. Both teams enter area tournament play on Thursday. Elsewhere, Tarrant’s boys zoomed by Fultondale 90-76, and Corner beat Oak Grove 63-43. Fultondale starts its area tournament tonight at Midfield, as they face B.B. Comer. In girls’ play, Gardendale thrashed Pinson Valley 59-34; those teams start their playoff runs on Wednesday.
