With both teams 5-1 in area play, area tournament hosting rights will be decided by a coin toss Monday.

Ryder Jones played a significant part in the Warriors’ big victory, accumulating 24 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field and a 4-of-6 clip at the free-throw line. Fellow seniors Levi Laney and Will Wrenn chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively. Tanner Rusk tacked on 10 points and eight rebounds. Jones pulled down seven boards.

Other West Point (16-9) contributors were Bryant Farley, five points; Riley Voce, four; and Jacob Daniel, three.

% Cullman 53, Decatur 49: Bobby Meyer’s squad collected its seventh straight win with a defensive battle over the Red Raiders.

Cullman (19-7, 4-1 area) led by just four going into the fourth quarter but drained 12 of 14 from the free-throw line in the final eight minutes for the close victory.

Lawson Schaffer had 23 points to lead the 6A No. 4 Bearcats — 13 of those were in last stanza — while Seth Swalve notched 10. Other contributors in the road win were Gage Goodwin, eight points; Brontae Harris, six; Nic Handley, three; Elijah Price, two; and Jason McAfee, one.

“Sluggish offense tonight,” Meyer said. “It took a gritty second half for us to win.”

Cullman will host No. 2 Austin next Tuesday night. A win would force a coin toss for area tourney hosting rights.

% Holly Pond 73, Scottsboro 68: The Smith siblings combined for 41 points, the Jones brothers were good for 31 and the Class 3A No. 1 Broncos spoiled the 6A Wildcats’ Senior Night.

Tavarus Tolliver had 28 points for Scottsboro.

% Hanceville 68, Fairview 48: Xavier Malcom record 18 points and eight rebounds, and five other Dawgs delivered at least eight points in the home team’s second win in three games.

Other Hanceville contributors were Christian Sellers, nine points; Jose Orozco, eight points and six rebounds; Jordan Peoples, eight points; C.J. White, two points; and Kaine Yates, four rebounds.

Eric Murphree and Noah Tillman both scored six points for Good Hope. Tyler Vanderburg had three.
