No confidence? That could be the result of a meeting this morning of the UAB Faculty Senate, which may hold a no-confidence vote for the school’s president. Dr. Ray Watts is still under very heavy fire for his decision to shut down the Blazers football program last week, as grass-roots efforts to force his ouster continue — the #FireRayWatts hashtag continues to be a nationally-trending topic on Twitter. Yesterday, Watts met informally with members of the Faculty Senate, in a meeting that was closed to the public; today’s regularly-scheduled meeting is required to be open to the public by state law.
Sports: Oh, Claire! Gardendale guard Claire Lumpkin had the biggest night of the season thus far for any Rockets player, as she scored 29 points in the team’s 62-51 win over visiting Walker. Gardendale moves to an 8-2 record for the season. Tonight, Mortimer Jordan hosts Hayden in a clash of Class 5A Area 11 rivals… College football: Amari Cooper has been chosen as one of the three finalists for the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. The Alabama wide receiver will join the favorite, Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon at the ceremony in New York. Cooper is the fourth Crimson Tide player in six years to be a finalist for the award for the nation’s best collegiate player.
