Gardendale’s Jordan Howard on disbanding of UAB football: “Bad things happen to good people”

- Former Gardendale Rockets star Jordan Howard set single-game and full-season rushing yardage records at UAB, which has since shut down its football program. Howard, who was ranked seventh in rushing yards gained this season as a sophomore, will transfer to the University of Indiana.
Running back Jordan Howard just finished the best season in the history of UAB football. Now, the UAB football program is history.
President Ray Watts announced Tuesday that the program would end after this season, in which Howard set school records for most rushing yards (1,587), as well as most rushing yards in a single game in last week’s win over Southern Miss.

Social media has been in near-meltdown mode over the prospects of the end of Blazer football, and the subsequent announcement that confirmed its death. Howard has been philosophical in comments on his Twitter account:

While there’s a slim chance that the Blazers will somehow finagle a stay of execution, there’s a better chance that Howard will end up at another school – and with his record-setting season, many top-tier coaches are taking a look. One source has told The North Jefferson News that a top-25 program in the Atlantic Coast Conference is taking great interest in the former Rocket. And if the Blazer program does fold, Howard will be able to transfer without any loss of NCAA eligibility.
