Good Monday morning to you…
Weather: Windy. A passing cold front means that you’ll need to hang on to your hat, as winds will kick up to 20 miles per hour, with gusts even higher. We’re already at our high for the day in the middle 60s; temperatures will fall as the front passes through, and lows tonight will be near 40. Mostly sunny on Tuesday with highs in the middle 50s.
Still no decision. The grand jury meeting in St. Louis has still not indicated whether they will return an indictment against the Ferguson, Mo. police officer who shot and killed an African-American teenager back in August. That action provoked several nights of riots and looting in the St. Louis suburb, and authorities fear a repeat if the officer is not indicted. The grand jury will meet again today.
Sports: Third time’s not the charm. The high school football post-season finally came to an end Friday night for the Gardendale Rockets, who never recovered from three Florence touchdowns in the first five minutes in a 49-14 loss in the Class 6A third playoff round. It’s the first time in more than a decade that the Rockets have advanced this far; they end the season with an 8-5 record… College football: Unbeaten Florida State remained on top of the Associated Press poll this week, with Alabama still second. But in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll. The Tide moved up to the top spot with the Seminoles second. Oregon remains third and Mississippi State fourth in both polls. Auburn is 15th in the AP poll and 16th in the coaches’ poll.
