PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Lady Warriors survive another close test, slip by Hanceville 52-51

WEST POINT — Just one night after a thrilling victory versus Cullman, West Point’s girls made it two straight heartstoppers after holding on for a 52-51 win versus Hanceville.
The Warriors led by 11 at halftime, but the Bulldogs wouldn’t go away, slicing the lead to four heading into the fourth frame.
Fortunately for coach John Welborn, his team was able to do just enough to move to 2-1 on the season.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we held on,” he said.
Mallory Walker led all scorers with 28 points, while teammate Jeri Beasley tossed in 10. Lexi Bell netted six; Madison Roberts, four; and Lillie and Lexie Burdette, two apiece.
Taylor Hollingworth notched 20 points for a resilient Dawg squad. Karmen Johnson was good for 16.
% Holly Pond 53, Good Hope 30: The Lady Broncos handled their business at home with solid second and third stanzas to move to 3-0 on the season.
Holly Pond led just 10-5 after one before increasing its leads to 34-15 at the half and 51-18 entering the fourth quarter of Friday night’s county clash.
Meg Gambrill led all Broncos with 27 points, while teammate Kaitlyn Stephens added 10. Ruth Horton threw in five; Melissa Clingman, four; Abby and Molly Gambrill, three each; and Adair Gillilan, two.
“We’re off to a good start,” coach Scott Adams said. “I’m pleased with how we’re playing and pleased with everyone’s contributions.”
Jessica King led Good Hope (2-2) with eight points. Kaylee Maddox and Kate Kent each had five, while Celest Whisenant added four and Sadie Abbott, two.
% J.B. Pennington 32, St. Bernard 16: For the second time this season, the Lady Saints fell to the Tigers.
St. Bernard (2-3) struggled to find any offense against the Pennington defense with Zana Wilson leading the way after a seven-point performance.
Jaden Edge collected three points, while Alli Messick, Tania Martinez and Anna Meyers each scored two.

% West Point 66, Hanceville 44: The Warriors picked up their first win of the season in a big way, bouncing their county rival by a wide margin on Friday night.
Ryder Jones was unstoppable inside for West Point (1-2), scoring a game-high 27 points. Tanner Rusk tallied 17 points, while teammates Will Wrenn (nine), Riley Voce (eight), Levi Laney (three) and Blake Yearwood (one) also contributed.
Hanceville (1-2) was led by Xavier Malcom (17 points) and Christian Sellers (10).
% Holly Pond 79, Good Hope 38: Every player in a Green and White uniform scored, as the Broncos rolled to their second W of the season.
Austin Smith led all players with 18 points, Drew Jones was good for 13, Cody Jones scored nine, and Landen Walker and Matt Cahoon each had eight for Holly Pond.
Stats were unknown for the Raiders.
% J.B. Pennington 57, St. Bernard 53: The Saints fought hard but ultimately came up short in a quick rematch against the Tigers.
Christian Peterson scored 17 points for St. Bernard (3-3), and Jacob Grey added 12. Gavin Harris was good for 11, while Dean Smith collected nine. Luis Zantarian rounded out the scoring on the night with four.
