- Tommy Leon Stewart, 28 of Birmingham was arrested on Nov. 12 on charges of robbing CVS pharmacies in Pinson and Center Point.
A Birmingham man has been arrested on charges of robbing pharmacies in Pinson and Center Point, and investigators think he may have committed other similar robberies.
Tommy Leon Stewart, 28, was arrested at about 1 p.m. Wednesday by Birmingham Police, after the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for him last week.
Stewart is accused of robbing the CVS Pharmacy in the 2000 block of Center Point Road on Oct. 21, and then another CVS store in Pinson eight days later. The robberies were carried out in a similar fashion: the suspect held up the pharmacists at gunpoint, took money and drugs, and then jumped out of the drive-thru window to get away.
The break in the case came when Stewart dropped his wallet in the Pinson incident, and used that to match fingerprints at both crime scenes.
Stewart is charged with five counts pf pharmacy robbery — three for the victims at the Pinson store and two at Center Point. There are also four charges of menacing.
A Sheriff’s Office spokesman said that Stewart may be linked to other crimes in Birmingham proper, including robberies at yet another CVS store, a doughnut shop and two paycheck-cashing businesses.
Stewart is held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
