A “video tower”? Developer Kerry McAdam has announced plans for his Plaza shopping development in Gardendale behind the under-construction Burger King, but some media reports of a 55-foot-high “video tower” aroused some controversy. Not to worry, McAdam told The North Jefferson News on Tuesday – the video screens atop a structure will be no bigger than an LED billboard already in place just down Fieldstown Road. When finished, the first of the two newer phases will include three or four retail spaces, with the following phase to include a larger store of 5,000 to 8,000 square feet. McAdam said he has a lease in hand and letters of intent for the other spaces, but can’t announce the tenants just yet.

Sports: Tide ranked fifth. Amid howls of protests from Crimson Nation, Alabama has been ranked just outside the top four teams in the latest poll of the College Football Playoff Committee. The fourth spot went to TCU, which knocked off seventh-ranked Kansas State. Mississippi State – the Tide’s opponent this Saturday – remains in the top spot, while Oregon and Florida State switched the second and third places.
