A man has been taken to UAB Hospital with serious injuries, after he was wounded by a gunshot at a home just east of the Pinson city limits.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said that the man, who was not identified, drove himself to a Center Point Fire Department station in Clay after sustaining a gunshot wound. The victim asked for deputies, but before they could arrive, the victim was taken to the hospital.
Authorities believe that the wounds were sustained when the man struggled over the gun in an altercation with his wife; he was struck in the chest by a single shot.
The incident took place at a home in the 6500 block of Davison Road, about two miles southeast of Pinson Valley High School.
The spokesman said that the victim was taken into surgery almost immediately upon arrival at UAB, and that the wife is cooperating in the investigation. No charges have been filed yet.
This is a developing story; we’ll update as additional information becomes available.
