Obituary: Gordon Rhea Lineberry

Gordon Rhea Lineberry died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, October 25, 2014.

He was born on January 2, 1936 in Old Hickory, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents Worth Alexander Lineberry and Margaret Elizabeth Tillman Lineberry and two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Lineberry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joan Casey Lineberry, three sons: Curtis Worth Lineberry (Paula) Sharpsburg, Ga., Thomas Casey Lineberry (Laura) of Tuscaloosa and Bobby Rhea Lineberry (Jennifer) of McDonough, Ga. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Andrew Foster Madison, Bryan Christopher Lineberry, Alyssa Rhea Lineberry, Justin Wyatt Lineberry and Kaleigh Rhea Lineberry. He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Smith of Shepherdsville, KY, Peggy Dillon and Judy Lineberry both of Tallahassee, Fla. and one brother, Walter (Corky) Lineberry (Janet) of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Gordon attended the University of Tennessee and proudly pulled for his Volunteers. He sent three sons to the University of Alabama and would cheer for UA as long as they were not playing Tennessee.

He served in the United States Army following the Korean Conflict.

He was the president of the Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham. He worked to prepare young people for the workplace as he served in Augusta, Ga., Greensboro, N.C., Jacksonville, Fla. and finally in Birmingham. He retired after 31 years of service, as he was ready to go fishing full-time!

He and his wife were members of the Hayden Lions Club.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, with visitation starting at noon at The New Gardendale Funeral Home.
