More than 31,000 pounds of chicken are being recalled by Murry’s Inc. in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, after the manufacturer said they may be contaminated with a bacteria that causes gastrointestinal illness.

The chicken, gluten-free breaded chicken breasts and nuggets, may contain Staphylococcal enterotoxin and were distributed nationwide.

• 12-oz. boxes of “Bell & Evans Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets.”
• 10.5-oz. boxes of “Bell & Evans Gluten Free Breaded Chicken Breast.”

According to a release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the problem was discovered by the Colorado Department of Agriculture during a sampling. Currently there have been “no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption” but the USDA has the recall listed as Class I, meaning:

“This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

Staphylococcal food poisoning is a gastrointestinal illness. According to the USDA, the bacteria can be fast acting, sometimes causing illness in as little as 30 minutes.
