MUSCLE SHOALS — The stars aligned just right Friday night to keep Cullman out of the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

With the Bearcats’ 28-0 loss at Muscle Shoals and Hartselle’s 34-13 win over Austin, Class 6A, Region 8’s playoff seeding was settled — and the Black and Gold (4-5, 2-4) weren’t included.

Everything worked out much more to the Trojan’s liking. Their victory versus Cullman, coupled with Florence’s against Decatur, assured Muscle Shoals another home game when the playoffs get going in two weeks.

Doc Wells ran for 81 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns, and the Trojan (6-2, 4-2) defense logged its first shutout of the season in the runaway win.

Muscle Shoals scored on its first two possessions and the Bearcats never mounted a threat.
