Fultondale is going to the dogs this weekend.
The third annual Barking at the Moon Festival is Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., at the Fultondale Bark Park.
The dog-friendly event, sponsored by the Friends of the Fultondale Bark Park and Mercy Animal Hospital, highlights animal rescue groups in the area. It also spotlights pet health and raises money for improvements and maintenance of the Fultondale Bark Park.
One of the most popular aspects of the festival is a pageant resulting in the crowning of the canine king and queen.
The festival is free and open to the public. There will be exhibitors, artists, dog rescue groups, a dog costume contest and a kid costume contest.
There is a $10 fee for each dog to enter the pageant and contests. Prizes will be given for the prettiest dog, ugliest dog, best trick and best costume.
There is no fee for children to enter the kids’ costume contest.
The dog pageant and costume contest is 1-2 p.m.; kids costume contest is 2-2:30 p.m.; Tony Hoard’s K-9 Trick Show is 2:30-3 p.m. and 3:30-4 p.m.; dog training demonstrations are 3:15-3:30 p.m.; and pageant winners announced at 4 p.m.
