According to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, Madison and Johnson were involved in an altercation outside the bar on Sept. 18. Madison is alleged to have shot Johnson, who died in a local hospital three weeks later.

Madison’s IMPD booking photo shows a face with numerous tattoos, including an obscene message directed at law enforcement.

According to a statement by Warrior Police Sgt. Corey Archer in a press conference Saturday, Madison was killed when he confronted an officer at the checkpoint, which was set up on Warrior Trafford Road near Star View Lane. Madison and the officer struggled with each other physically, and the officer shot and killed Madison.

The identity of the officer has not been released, and the case has been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigation.
