Weather: Severe weather possible late. A cold front will force a squall line through metro Birmingham tonight, which could produce heavy rain, high winds and some possible isolated tornadoes. There’s a 50 percent chance of scattered storms today with highs in the middle 80s. Rain chances increase to 100 percent tonight with lows in the middle 60s. The storms should move out by lunchtime Tuesday, and we’ll see cooler temps.
New Ebola victim in Dallas. A health worker who helped treat the man who died from the disease last week has now been diagnosed with the Ebola virus. Officials aren’t quite sure how it happened, especially since she was wearing full protective gear. Thomas Eric Duncan, who was from Liberia, died from Ebola on Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital.
Sports: More cowbell. Mississippi State’s big win over Auburn on Saturday propelled the Bulldogs to the top spot in the college football polls. Florida State dropped to second, despite winning their game, and Ole Miss stayed at third. The Tigers dropped to sixth, and Alabama stayed put in seventh in the Associated Press poll. Five of the top 10 teams in the AP rankings are from the SEC (Georgia moved up to 10th), and four of the top eight are in the SEC West.
