The Eagles blocked an early Bronco field goal attempt and returned it to the 30-yard line. They got the first score of the game on a 1-yard run by John Michael Dye that gave Vinemont a 7-0 lead with 2:03 remaining in the opening quarter.

Vinemont struck again on the ground after forcing a Holly Pond punt to start the second quarter. Bo Wright broke free for a 48-yard run with 7:15 left before halftime to give the Eagles a 14-0 lead.

Holly Pond put together a long drive that started at the 30-yard line and ended with a 2-yard touchdown run by Caleb Jones that cut the deficit to 14-7. But the Eagles answered when Garrett Boland found Wright for a 23-yard pass to widen the lead to 21-7 at the half.

After fumbles by both teams and an Eagle punt, Holly Pond quickly got in the end zone on a 18-yard TD pass from Jones to Trey Hill III to cut the score to 21-14.

Following punts by both teams, Vinemont used the combination of Wright and Dye on its next drive, which ended with a 5-yard touchdown run with 11:39 left in the game.

Dye struck gold again on the Eagles’ ensuing possession, this time from 33 yards out to give Vinemont a 35-14 lead. But Holly Pond wouldn’t quit, putting together a long drive that started from their 41 and ended with another touchdown pass from Jones. The scoring strike was to Tony Sanchez from 8 yards out and trimmed the lead to 35-21.

Vinemont recovered the onside kick and ran out the remaining 4:00 of clock to improve to 3-4 and 2-2 in Class 3A, Region 5. Holly Pond fell to 0-7 and 0-4.

Wright and Dye gave the Broncos fits Friday night, combining for 255 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
