PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Good Hope, Addison wrangle road wins; Hanceville loses to region frontrunner

PRICEVILLE — After three quarters of play, Good Hope’s Friday night showdown againt Priceville was eerily similar to last week’s big loss at Locust Fork.
But in the best way possible.
Instead of trailing 49-13 as they did against the Hornets, the Raiders led the Bulldogs by the hefty margin to start the fourth quarter. From there, they dodged a small fourth-quarter scare, holding on to secure a much-need 49-34 road and region victory.
Good Hope (3-4, 2-3 in Class 4A, Region 7) started the game strong, ending the first quarter up 14-0.
Coach Chris Moss credited his defense for the early fireworks.
“Our defense played extremely well,” he said. “We gave up very few first downs, and that allowed our offense to click.”
Priceville (3-4, 1-4) trailed 28-6 at halftime but didn’t just roll over and play did. The Bulldogs piled on 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to make the score look much more respectable than it did at the conclusion of three quarters.
“We got sloppy in the second half,” Moss said. “We rode the lead there at the end.”
Running back Jared McClure amassed more than 100 yards on the ground for a Raider offense that didn’t lack firepower. Wide receiver Kainan Smith — part of an explosive set of skill players for the Good Hope sideline — caught two touchdowns and went well over 100 yards receiving.
The Raiders will host DAR for homecoming next week.
“We have got to get ready,” Moss said. “I’m sure they’ll have a good game plan for us. We haven’t had a chance to look at them yet. We’ve been worrying about us first.”
‰ Addison 13, Sumiton Christian 0: After lengthy lightning delays, the Bulldogs pitched their second shutout in four weeks on the road against the Eagles.
Addison (5-2, 3-1 in Class 2A, Region 6) scored its first touchdown shortly before halftime and second late in the fourth quarter to bump its win streak to four games.
Inclement weather forced the contest to pick up in the first quarter around 10 p.m. The Bulldogs didn’t officially close out the win until just before midnight.
Tarrant, Addison’s next opponent, had its region rumble against Falkville postponed until Saturday. Addison and Tarrant will likely duke it out with first-round hosting rights at stake.
‰ Oakman 47, Hanceville 0: Homecoming for the Wilcats (6-1, 5-0 in Region 5) brought both a shutout victory over the Bulldogs (0-7, 0-4) and an assured home game in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.
The game, which was shortened to eight-minute quarters in the second half, was dominated by the Wildcats on offense and defense. Oakman totaled 419 yards on the night, with 322 yards on the ground. Chris Austin rushed for 178 yards on 11 carries with four touchdowns. Brennan Hartley had 123 all-purpose yards, completing five of nine passes for 76 yards, while running for 47 yards on seven carries with one touchdowns.
The Wildcats defense, in an equally impressive performance, held the Bulldogs offense to just 74 total yards, six first downs and forced five turnovers. Connor Woods intercepted two Hanceville passes.
Oakman will play Winfield in the de facto Region 5 championship game next week. Hanceville will host Holly Pond in a battle for both county squad’s first wins.
