Hello, Tuesday, and will someone go slap the Internet upside the head to get it working again please?…
Weather: Maybe some thunder. Yesterday’s storms stayed just to the north and east of the metro area, but we have a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms again this afternoon with a high temperature near 80. Rain chances continue until the overnight hours, with a low in the middle 60s. Clearing skies are coming on Wednesday with a high in the middle 80s.
Trending
Incentives for new businesses. The Gardendale City Council passed incentive packages for two new stores. Dollar General, which is building another store at the corner of Tarrant Road and New Castle Road, received sales-tax abatement to make up for additional costs needed to make the store meet city building codes that require extra masonry. The site was recently annexed into the city. The council also approved incentives for a new Tractor Supply Company store on north U.S. 31, despite the objections of residents of Vann Road, which runs behind the proposed site.
Teacher charged. Reginald Swanson Jr., a former teacher at Paul Bryant High School in Tuscaloosa and a resident of Pinson, turned himself into police where he was charged with improper sexual contact with a student under 19. The alleged incident occurred about two weeks ago, and Swanson has since been removed from the school staff. He is free on $1,000 bond.
Sports: High honors for Hodges. Mortimer Jordan quarterback Duncan Hodges was named the state’s offensive player of the week by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, thanks to his six-touchdown, 427-yard passing effort in the Blue Devils’ big win over Alexandria last Friday night. It’s the second time in a year that a local player has been so honored; Pinson Valley running back Nick Gibson won it after running 447 yards in their game against Jordan last year. Hodges was also a finalist for a similar honors given by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
