Don’t look now, but Good Hope is officially streaking.

Following an 0-3 start that was only a few big breaks from realistically reading 2-1, the Raiders have breathed life back into their Class 4A program with gutsy wins in back-to-back weeks.

The Red and White relied on one of its oldest players (senior Jared McClure), as well as one its youngest (freshman Reese Harbison), to complete a 19-14 comeback at Curry last Friday night.

McClure capped off a monster outing with 194 rushing yards on 16 carries. None was bigger than a 13-yard, game-winning touchdown with only 2:45 remaining.

Just six minutes earlier, Harbison had reeled in a 75-yard scoring reception from Riley Eisner to pull Good Hope within a point. The two connected five other times on the evening, bringing Harbison’s receiving total to 118 yards.

For their efforts, McClure and Harbison landed on the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Week 6 list of “other notable performances.” Cold Springs’ Austin Moore, West Point’s Kobe Smith, Fairview’s Austin Harris and Holly Pond’s Caleb Jones also cracked the ASWA’s Player of the Week release.

Moore sealed the deal on 2A Cold Springs’ best start (5-1) since 2003 with an interception at midfield in the final minutes of a 21-15 home win over 3A Vinemont. The senior, a solid contributor on both sides of the ball, also accounted for 49 rushing yards and a score.

Smith ripped off 150 rushing yards and a trio of touchdowns in West Point’s 47-6 road rout of Hanceville. The speedster added a fourth score on a 17-yard screen pass from Bryant Farley as the Warriors improved to 5-0 for the first time in 20 years.

Harris blocked a punt — one of his several defensive highlights — and rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns to help Fairview snap a three-game slide with a 53-27 victory over Holly Pond. It was the Aggies’ eighth straight win in the county series.

An early fumble by the Broncos turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Jones, who recovered the ball and carried it 70 yards to set up his first of three scores. The sophomore bolstered an 108-yard outing on the ground with a late 85-yard jaunt to the end zone.

Cullman’s Connor Moon was the only local player to make the cut in the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight package for Week 6.

The senior had seven tackles, including one for loss, and blocked an extra-point attempt in a 21-18 road triumph over Fayette County. The Bearcats blocked two point-after attempts and thwarted a two-point conversion to preserve the victory.

North Jackson’s Octavius Jackson was selected as the ASWA’s Offensive Player of the Week after piling on 340 all-purpose yards — 176 rushing, 89 in returns and 75 receiving — and five touchdowns in a 42-39 thriller over Scottsboro. Three touchdowns came on the ground, one on a catch and another on a kickoff return.

Jackson edged Chelsea’s Zalon Reynolds and Oneonta’s Zach Dimmock for the top offensive award. The former needed just seven totes to churn out 195 yards and three touchdowns (10, 14 and 56 yards) in a 64-35 win versus Helena. The latter was 18-of-21 passing for 302 yards and two scores with a 7-yard touchdown run in a 33-26 victory against Susan Moore.

The ASWA’s Defensive/Special Teams Player of the Week was Minor’s Maurice Smitherman, who jumpstarted a 50-43 road win over Gardendale with a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He was also good for two interceptions, two pass breakups and six tackles.

Enterprise’s Ashante Ralph and Gordo’s Patrick Manning were the other finalists. Ralph returned one of his two picks for a touchdown, made 11 tackles — including a sack — and forced a fumble in a 48-27 victory versus Dothan. Manning had a 42-yard scoop-and-score and also returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown in a 34-7 smashing of Sipsey Valley.

Falkville captured the AHSAA Prep Spotlight with a 42-35 comeback against West Morgan. The Blue Devils rallied from a 27-12 deficit at halftime by outscoring the Rebels 30-8 in the third and fourth quarters. Falkville took the lead for good on a 1-yard touchdown run by Patrick Knowles, who finished with 229 rushing yards, just inside the final minute.
