A missed extra point was the difference-maker, as Corner got its second victory of the season with a 21-20 win at Oak Grove on Friday night.

The Tigers were set to tie the game with 7:42 left, after Blaine Smith hit Jarrod Keys-McGill with a 60-yard touchdown pass. But kicker Matt Turner, who was true on his first two extra points, went wide right on the third to leave his team behind by a point.

Oak Grove drew first blood when Brandon Hester scored in the first quarter on a 6-yard run. The Yellow Jackets answered later in the period when Taylor Crawford ran it in from two yards out.

Turner was on the receiving end of a 40-yard touchdown pas from Smith in the second period with 27 seconds left before intermission.

In the second half, Corner drew even with another rushing touchdown from Crawford, this time for three yards. The Jackets then took their first and only lead of the game when Jake Crew caught a 27-yard scoring toss from Chris Huff with 9:43 left in the game.

Corner kept Oak Grove from gaining momentum in the second half, holding the home team to just two first downs after halftime and stopping the Tigers on three fourth-down conversion attempts.

Joseph Gannon was 3-for-3 on his extra points.

Crawford led the ground game with 117 yards on 25 carries. Huff was 13-of-17 passing for 143 yards. Crew had five receptions for 75 yards for the Jackets.

Keys-McGill caught four Smith passes for 80 yards to lead the Tigers (1-4).

John Bassett had 10 tackles, Eric Millwood added nine and Bailey Graves eight for Corner’s defense.

Corner (2-3) travels to Pleasant Grove next week.
