MONTGOMERY — Fultondale stayed even with Alabama Christian for the first half, but then the Eagles took flight with their air attack and pulled away to a 29-13 win Friday night.
The Wildcats opened the scoring with a 2-yard run by Lovell Jordan with 4:18 left in the first half, but Alabama Christian tied the game exactly two minutes later with a 34-yard pass from Chandler Taylor to Ethan Anderson.
In the second half, the Eagles took control. They assumed the lead on a 28-yard field goal by Hunter Hanson about midway through the third quarter, and followed that with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jaylon Miles.
Taylor then connected with Anderson on their second touchdown combination of the game, a 41-yard pass with 8:56 left to play.
Fultondale made up some ground a minute and a half later when James Gowdy threw a 50-yard scoring strike to Jared Stewart. The 2-point conversion run failed.
Miles capped off the night with a TD run from the 15 late in the game.
The Eagles passed for 15 completions in 30 attempts for 260 yards, compared to the Cats with just 58 on three completions in eight attempts with an interception. Stewart caught all three passes. Anderson caught seven throws for 134 yards.
Brandon Lewis ran for 78 yards in 15 carries for Fultondale.
American Christian, a Class 5A team, improves to 3-3 overall. Fultondale, 4-2 in Class 3A but unbeaten in Region 3 play, goes back to the region with a home contest against Montgomery Academy next week.
