Another business in Fultondale has recovered from the tornado that ripped through the city in April 2011.

More than three years later, a motel on Decatur Highway is re-opening. The former Super 8 motel has been rebuilt and is opening as a Quality Inn.

Owner Tejash Patel attended the Fultondale City Council meeting on Monday, when the council approved Patel’s business license.

“They have been working on this diligently since the tornado,” said Mayor Jim Lowery. “What they’ve done there is remarkable. It’s all new on the inside — it’s totally rebuilt.”

Patel also owns the La Quinta Inn in Fultondale.

The Quality Inn is located next to Days Inn on Decatur Highway at Interstate 65; both hotels were destroyed by the tornado. Days Inn re-opened last year.

Also related to the tornado, the council voted to demolish a house at 2210 Manning Road belonging to Martha Ann Henry. The house was heavily damaged by the 2011 tornado.

Henry spoke at Monday’s council meeting as well as at previous council meetings, where she asked to city not to demolish the house.

Lowery said the house was condemned because it is a dangerous; the homeowner said she has been unable to have the house repaired because of the expense.

In other business, the council:

• approved a business license for Southern Hospitality Inc., a home health care service, to be located at 1810 Decatur Hwy., Suite 120, as applied for by Randy Stephenson

• heard from the new Fultondale Elementary School principal, Frances Finney, who wanted to meet the city council members and thank them for their support of the school.
