A housekeeper for an elderly Mt. Olive woman had been arrested for stealing a large amount of jewelry from her employer.

Crystal Lynn Kloet, 32, is charged with first degree theft of property, after $29,300 in jewelry sold to a Gardendale store was identified as coming from the victim’s home.

The 76-year-old victim reported the jewelry missing last month, and suspected that a previous housekeeper was to blame. That former housekeeper was interviewed by Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies and cleared, but her replacement – Kloet – was then investigated.

Deputies then found that the items were sold to the jewelry on two separate occasions in August. The items were photographed, and identified by the victim.

A warrant was sworn out for Kloet on Tuesday, and she turned herself in at the Jefferson County Jail on Thursday. She was released on $10,000 bond.
