- Mayor Jim Lowery of Fultondale delivers remarks at the city's ceremony to remember the events of Sept. 11.
The city of Fultondale today honored the Americans who fell on Sept. 11, 2001, at the hands of terrorists.
Mayor Jim Lowery led the annual Patriots Day ceremony at the Promenade Shopping Center near the first of two giant U.S. flags that the city has installed along Interstate 65.
Wayne Stacey, state commander of the American Legion, was the guest speaker.
Stacey encouraged the audience to never forget the events of Sept. 11 and to remain patriotic to the U.S., as well as to serve in one’s local community.
Lowery said the city will install more U.S. flags along the interstate for travelers to see as they go through Fultondale. The flags will be in honor of landmark historical events such as the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf war and others.
