Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested an adult man and a juvenile in connection with a car theft in the Brighton community.

The car sped away from the deputy, who pursued the car into a cul-de-sac. The car stopped and the driver and passenger fled the scene on foot. The driver was caught, but the passenger got away.

A resident called the Sheriff’s Office to say that the passenger was seen going into an open basement of a nearby home. He was later caught while running on Tupelo Way, about a block away from Erwin Elementary School.

The car was reported stolen from the Brighton area on Wednesday. Investigators also found a small amount of marijuana in the car.

The driver is identified as Roderick Lee Sharpe III, 19, of Brighton. He is charged with first-degree receiving stolen property, attempting to elude, reckless endangerment, second-degree possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. He is lodged in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $61,600.

The passenger is a 17-year-old juvenile, accused of third-degree burglary and attempting to elude. He is in custody at the county’s youth detention facility.
