Kimberly hires new municipal prosecutor

The city of Kimberly has filled a vacancy in its municipal prosecutor position.

Jeff Hester, an attorney from Pelham, was introduced to the Kimberly City Council during its meeting Monday night.

Hester formerly worked in the Shelby County district attorney’s office, and additionally serves as a municipal judge in Vincent. He has also served as a fill-in city judge and prosecutor for Pelham.

Also, Fire Chief Brian Gober told the council that his department has been approved for a grant from a foundation run by the Firehouse Subs restaurant chain.

Gober said the foundation asked that the details of what the department will receive not been released until the foundation could publicize it in a presentation. The grant will help the department replace equipment that was damaged in the April tornado.

The council was also told by Councilman John Richardson that he had been in touch with Tractor Supply Company about locating a store in Kimberly. TSC has announced plans to open a new store in north Gardendale, but has met with opposition from neighboring residents.

In other business, the council:

• heard from resident Gene McDuff, who complained to the council that Darwin Circle had several problems with holes and ruts in its pavement; he said previous requests to City Hall personnel to have the issues fixed had fallen on deaf ears

• declared a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria police car as surplus, to be put up for bids

• withdrew a resolution tabled in a previous meeting to have a 2005 Dodge Durango declared as surplus.
