MONTEVALLO — The Locust Fork Hornets unleashed an unstoppable running attack, scoring on their first three possessions to take a commanding lead and then just kept running the football until the end, for a 47-0 thrashing of Montevallo in Friday night’s season opener.
The Hornets scored all their points on the ground, with touchdowns from quarterback Todd Goodwin (twice), reserve quarterback Michael Reid (twice), and running backs Hayden Jackson, Micah Stephens, and Shiloh Biles. Together, they tallied nearly 450 yards in total offense.
The Falcons only reached the Locust Fork side of the field twice during the game, on the last play of the first half and on their last possession of the game.
The Hornet defense scored their first shutout since 2009, and the margin of victory was the largest margin since defeating the now-defunct Glenn High School of Birmingham 61-0 in October 1964.
