Charming guests

- Brandin’ Iron manager, Josh Speakman is seen with recent diner “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed” actress Shannen Doherty.
Before Aug. 9, the most famous person to grace West Point’s Brandin’ Iron restaurant was an Alabama governor. That changed around 4:14 p.m.
“It’s Shannen Doherty!” exclaimed diners Christy and Kaitlin Chappel. It took them about 10 minutes to convince restaurant manager Josh Speakman that it really was the former “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed” Star.
Speakman had noticed a charter bus outside, but just assumed it belonged to one of the church groups that frequently visit the popular steakhouse.
“Has anyone ever told you that you look like Shannen Doherty?” someone asked her before they knew for sure that it was, indeed, the actress. “Yes, my mother, it’s what she named me!” laughed Doherty.
Everyone tried not to stare as Doherty and “Charmed” co-star Holly Marie Combs, dined on the Brandin’ Iron’s famous Delmonico steaks. “What in the world are you doing in Cullman?” Speakman asked them.
It seems their original destination had been the Arkadelphia Speedway to film a segment for their upcoming television show, “Off the Map with Shannen and Holly.”
Unfortunately rain canceled the shoot, but it did give them an opportunity to try the local cuisine.
Speakman didn’t immediately recognize Holly, who first graced television in the critically acclaimed “Picket Fences” in the early 1990s, but did remember Shannen from her role on “Charmed.”
“They asked around about where the best restaurant in the area was, and someone referred them to the Brandin’ Iron,” said Speakman, proudly.
According to Speakman, the group cut up, laughed and acted like everyday, non-famous people. “Shannen loved her steak,” he said, pleased with her response. “One of the women that I assume was a nanny, just kept raving about her catfish,” he said with a laugh. “I told her that they were bottle-fed catfish and they kept asking how catfish could be bottle fed.”
