Update: Flash flood watch canceled

A flash flood watch for central Alabama has been canceled by the National Weather Service out of Birmingham.

Central Alabama received 1 to 2 inches of rain on Wednesday and an additional 1 to 2 inches occurred overnight. The weather service had initially predicted more flooding and residual runoff through the morning hours.

A round of strong to severe thunderstorms are expected across Jefferson County through early Saturday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for several central Alabama counties, including Jefferson County, shortly after 1:30 a.m. this morning and was set to expire at 9 a.m.
