A Gardendale sixth-grader recently got a chance to see the inner workings of state government.
Lexie Bear of Bragg Middle School served as a page for Sen. Scott Beason Feb. 12-14.
Lexie learned about the page program in November 2007 during a field trip with her RLC class.
When she came home, she told her parents that she would like to serve as a page. With their help, she contacted Beason’s office and applied for the program.
While serving as a page, Lexie also met several other senators and Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom.
She went on a tour of the Senate building and the Capital building, going into areas that most visitors don’t get to see.
On Feb. 12, the Senate and House had a joint meeting addressed by Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb. The pages were allowed to sit in on this meeting in the House Chamber.
As a group, the pages sat in on several committee meetings and were addressed by the head of security for the Senate Building.
They also heard from a lobbyist, who explained his job.
Lexie lives in Gardendale with her parents Lee and Beverly Bear and her brother Martin.
