Person You Should Know: Albert May

Albert May, 73, has lived in Warrior for three years. He moved to north Jefferson County to be closer to his grandchildren. His wife, Lydia Joan, died four years ago. They were married almost 50 years.



• Where do your grandchildren live?

I have two grandkids in Pinson. They’re only 13 miles away.



• How many children do you have?

I had three children. Albert III and his wife Sandra have the two kids. Anthony Michael is my son who passed away when he was 5 years old. Andrew Robert is married to Lisa.



• What type of work did you do before retirement?

I was in maintenance. I worked 20 years for Continental Can in Pascagoula and eight years for Uncle Ben’s Foods in Greenville, Miss. I also owned two businesses – a lawn care service and a ceramic business.



• Were you ever in the military?

I was in the U.S. Navy for 17 years. I was a boilerman – I made the ships go.



• Where did you grow up?

In Biloxi.



• What do you do in your spare time?

I go to the Warrior Senior Center. I just enjoy being there. It gives me somebody to talk to. I have jobs there – I put out utensils and take out the trash.



• What else do you enjoy doing?

I love to bass fish. I like to work with HO electric trains. I’ve got a living room full of them. I fly model airplanes. I also like to experiment with cooking. I make macaroni and cheese, macaroni salad, peach cake, pound cake and pies.



• Is there anything about you that most people around here don’t know?

I’m a professional photographer.



• Film or digital?

I prefer film. I think it makes better pictures.
